Vance Boelter is accused of posing as a police officer and fatally shooting former Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in their home early Saturday in the northern Minneapolis suburbs. Authorities say he also shot Sen. John Hoffman, a Democrat, and his wife, Yvette, at their home in a nearby neighborhood.

Minnesota authorities arrested Vance Boelter, the suspect in the assassination of Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband and the failed assassination attempt of Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, on Sunday afternoon after a daylong manhunt.

On Saturday, Walz said Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were “out of surgery,” and their nephew Mat Ollig told the Star Tribune on Sunday they were “both awake now and recovering,” noting a bullet that struck Hoffman “barely missed his heart.”
