Republicans in a Georgia Senate committee have advanced a bill that would force the city of Atlanta to let the Fulton County sheriff use the city jail for no more than the cost of maintaining it.

At Wednesday’s Fulton County Commission meeting, a five-month extension to a contract for maintaining jail facilities at its three jail locations.
