It’s Tuesday, June 17 and the Guardians (35-35) are in San Francisco to take on the Giants (41-31). Slade Cecconi is slated to take the mound for Cleveland against Robbie Ray for San Francisco. Today the Giants welcome Rafael Devers to the fold after a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox.
Verlander, 42, hasn’t appeared for the Giants since pitching four innings against the Athletics on May 18. On May 22, San Francisco placed Verlander on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 19) with right pectoral soreness. Following a month of bullpens (and two live bullpens), Verlander will return to the fold.
Guardians' manager Stephen Vogt says the team's recent struggles can be a "gut punch," but they have to keep playing their style of baseball.
BOTTOM LINE: The San Francisco Giants host the Cleveland Guardians aiming to continue a five-game home winning streak. San Francisco is 41-31 overall and 22-11 at home. The Giants have gone 23-11 in games when they did not give up a home run.
