Joep Wennemars was the first of those contenders, the Dutch skater up in the 11th pair against Italy’s Daniele di Stefano. Wennemars was frustrated in the 1,000-meter event when he was impeded on a lane change, and while he took his re-skate he could not reach the podium.

USA speed skater Jordan Stolz finished second in the men's 1,500 behind China's Ning Zhongyan, who set an Olympic record en route to gold.

The U.S. speedskating star finishes second in the 1,500 behind Ning Zhongyan of China. Stolz still has two golds and a silver in these Games.

Jordan Stolz now has a silver medal to add to his two gods, which the 21-year-old phenom already claimed at 500 and 1,000 meters. He was the favorite in Thursday's 1,500-meter final, but came in second to China’s Zhongyan Ning. Kjeld Nuis took bronze.
