This new entry in the series isn't the only prequel for the franchise. In 2022, Square Enix released a free-to-play gacha game for Android and iOS called Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. That game was a direct prequel to the first Octopath game, so it's unclear how Octopath Travel 0 will fit into the timeline.

One of the final frames of the trailer shows what looks like a group battle, with the player monitoring the statuses of multiple characters all at once. While it’s just a guess based on the few details revealed during the stream, Octopath Traveler 0 looks like a major evolution from the previous games in the franchise.

Those who prefer digital games can also grab the $60 Octopath Traveler 0 Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes everything from the base game, plus a bonus pack of helpful items and--for most consoles--a digital art book. Note that the digital art book is not included in the PS4 Digital Deluxe Edition.
