Forsyth County officials captured a raccoon this week and after tests, officials say the animal tested positive for rabies.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A raccoon found in Cumming near the city fairgrounds tested positive for rabies earlier this week, officials with animal control confirmed. Multiple residents have since been treated for the disease after coming into contact with the animal, officials said.

Forsyth County Animal Services is now urging residents in the area to be vigilant for any animals acting strangely and to contact Animal Services immediately if they observe unusual behavior.

This is in response to a confirmed case of rabies in an unvaccinated cat that was captured in Ormond Beach near the intersection of Collins Street and Hand Avenue on Feb. 26. DOH-Volusia is monitoring rabies among wild animals in the area. All residents and visitors should know that rabies is currently present in the wild animal population.
