A lot of snow, rain and cold weather await travelers for the rest of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with winter storm warnings posted Friday across the northern part of the country and more snow falling over the Great Lakes region. Storm warnings and advisories extended from Montana to New York, the National Weather Service said.
The Thanksgiving weekend storm system has brought over a foot of snow and strong winds to parts of the Midwest, and thunderstorms across the South.
As of around 12:30 p.m. EST, more than 4,200 flights were already delayed in the U.S. and another 572 canceled, according to online tracker FlightAware. The majority of these delays and cancellations took place at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, which saw 368 delayed flights and 104 canceled.
Travelers at the end of the Thanksgiving holiday on Sunday were finding hundreds of flights delayed and canceled in Chicago following a winter storm in the Great Lakes region, while a wintry mix of rain and snow developed in the Northeast.
Snow totals fluctuated wildly in some areas, largely because of how the snow bands were pushed by the high winds.
