Nearly 300,000 acres have burned across Oklahoma as powerful winds and extremely dry air fueled fast-moving wildfires this week.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for 70 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. Fire spread rates could exceed 200 feet per minute under strong winds. A high fire danger is expected across Oklahoma. Smoke from the fires has reduced air quality in parts of northwestern Oklahoma.

Ongoing wildfires and dangerous fire weather conditions continue to impact communities across Oklahoma, prompting the State Emergency Operations Center to remain activated.
The fire danger continues in Oklahoma Thursday following wildfires in northwest parts of the state. Fire crews battled multiple wildfires Tuesday in Woodward, Beaver and Texas Counties. Residents were evacuated for some of these fires.
Oklahoma wildfire season has started officially, and could ramp up to be as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than the wildfires of 2025.
