The Lakers also missed out on veteran big man Brook Lopez, who opted to sign with the cross-town rival Los Angeles Clippers, according to Charania. With both players slipping away, Lakers fans have taken to social media to roast the team, as the early hours of free agency are already proving frustrating.

With their need for a center and two superstars on different timelines, the Lakers are getting lots of attention — and understandably so.

"Free agent center Clint Capela has agreed to a three-year, $21.5 million deal with the Houston Rockets, sources tell ESPN," Shams Charania of ESPN reported via X. "Major front-court addition -- and return to Houston for Capela."

The Los Angeles Lakers' need for a center has been well documented, dating back to last season. When the team traded Anthony Davis, a power forward who preferred not to be the team's de facto big, the situation became even more dire.
