The Federal Aviation Administration released an emergency order late Thursday that directs airlines to phase in a 10 percent reduction in domestic flights at dozens of major airports nationwide, starting Friday morning.

"This is about where’s the pressure and how do we alleviate the pressure," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.

Overall, United has canceled more than 100 flights each day, from Friday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 9, the airline's website showed. Of those, 34 United flights scheduled to depart or arrive at Chicago O'Hare International Airport Friday were cut, with that number increasing to 38 Saturday.
