Instagram said Tuesday that the platform is introducing its teen accounts feature, which has extra protective measures for the safety of users in India,

Meta has launched Instagram Teen Accounts in India. This new service of Instagram comes with built-in safety features, which will provide better safety and privacy to children under 16 years of age on the photo and video-sharing platform.

The Teen accounts, to be rolled out in a phased manner in the country, are designed to create a more secure and age-appropriate space for teenagers online.

By default, Teen Accounts are set to private, requiring teens to manually approve follower requests—a rule that also extends to users under 18.

To mark Safer Internet Day, we are reinforcing our commitment to online safety of young users with the expansion of Instagram Teen Accounts to India in a phased manner.

The new Instagram feature allows parents to see and control what their children do as well as set daily limits and reminders to stop using the app.

Instagram will automatically make all new and existing accounts of people aged 13-17 private, with more restrictive and protected settings, even if it was previously a public account.

This phased rollout aims to create a safer, more age-appropriate space for teens by adding protective features that creates a safe space for teens on Instagram.
