Richards is a former UW-Whitewater wrestler — a member of the 2020-21 and 2021-22 wrestling teams, his freshman and sophomore years, according to the college's wrestling roster.

Whitewater rests on the edge of the Kettle Moraine State Forest roughly 60 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Its population is about 15,000, with UW-Whitewater's student body nearly 11,000.
