YouTube has become a TV giant with a sprawling free video-streaming platform and a cable-like bundle of channels for a monthly fee. Now, it is breaking up the bundle. Google-owned YouTube TV is introducing a slate of genre-specific channel packages in early 2026,
DirecTV offers signature streaming packages, and its basic plan starts at $90 a month with fees (without the promo rates). YouTube TV, Sling, Fubo and Hulu Plus Live TV's plans all cost more, affecting the value of these services based on their channel lineups. With channel losses and price hikes, some of services may seem less appealing.
The competition among streamers is fierce, and Netflix is still the leader in the industry with more than half of Forbes survey respondents preferring its interface. On a global level, Netflix has more than 300 million subscribers, while YouTube TV has around 9 million customers, according to Stream TV Insider .
YouTube TV will expand its subscription options in 2026 with more than '10 genre-specific packages' including a Sports Plan with ESPN.
The new plan will include ESPN Unlimited, FS1, NBC Sports Network and Golf Channel, among others. This package offers a more affordable option for sports fans who do not want a full cable bundle. Full details, including the price and a complete channel list, have not yet been announced.
The move was announced via a blog post by Christian Oestlien, YTTV’s vice president and head of subscriptions. Oestlien highlighted a YouTube TV Sports Plan with access to major broadcasts and sports networks like FS1, NBC Sports, and all ESPN channels. You’ll be able to select NFL Sunday Ticket and NFL RedZone as add-ons.
