Crews have begun work to remove the large yellow “Black Lives Matter” painted on the street one block from the White House. D.C.

The iconic Black Lives Matter mural near the White House, a powerful symbol of protest and racial justice since 2020, is being removed under an order from Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser. Crews began work Monday erasing the massive yellow lettering that stretched across two city blocks on 16th Street NW.

Construction crews began dismantling the large painting of the words ‘Black Lives Matter’ just one block from the White House on Monday. Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the change last week in response to pressure from a group of Republicans in Congress.
