The day after the Mavs general manager traded Luka Doncic to the L.A. Lakers, Harrison met with reporters in Cleveland, before their game against the Cavaliers on Feb. 2. That session, which included coach Jason Kidd, was before a group of media that was a fraction compared to the SRO crowd that showed at the team’s practice facility on Friday.

The Dallas Mavericks made arguably one of the biggest draft-day trades in 2018 when they acquired Luka Doncic from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Trae Young. In just a couple of years, Doncic blossomed into a superstar and gave Mavericks fans hope of winning another NBA Championship after 2011.

Kidd was unaware that Harrison was shopping Doncic. Harrison reportedly had nearly a month of dialogue with Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka about the move. Not once did he tell the coach he thinks he’s aligned with about what was in the works behind the scenes.
