An Allentown police officer is charged with assault for pistol-whipping a man during an arrest last month, according to authorities. Abviud Carvajal, 30, of South Whitehall Township, faces charges of aggravated assault and simple assault for allegedly hitting the man with the muzzle of his handgun following a police chase July 23.

When state troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were tasked Thursday morning with checking on a call of shots fired at a home in rural northeastern Pennsylvania, they had no idea about the danger they were driving toward.

A suspect is dead after shooting two Pennsylvania State Police troopers in Susquehanna County Thursday morning, police told the Associated Press. The shooting took place around 11 a.m., along Route 171, near Thompson, Pa., according to state police Colonel Christopher Paris.
