Thousands of homes are expected have spent a second night without power as the clean-up continues in the aftermath of Storm Floris. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said it had restored supplies to more than 65,000 homes but that 6,300 remained cut off.

Staff worked through the night to clear rail tracks blocked by fallen trees and debris after high winds affected roads, flights and ferries - and left thousands without power.
