the National Labor Relations Board announced Saturday. The federal labor agency said 2,447 workers cast ballots against union representation while 829 voted in favor of joining the independent union, which is made up of former and current Amazon workers.

The results, 829 in favor of unionizing and 2,447 opposed, came after a three-year effort by Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity & Empowerment (CAUSE), the organization hoping to represent the Amazon employees.

It was the second such vote Amazon faced in as many months, after a majority of workers at a Philadelphia Whole Foods location opted to join a union, the first at the grocery chain.

An upstart union in North Carolina alleged Amazon interfered with the vote counting process on Saturday at a warehouse near Raleigh.

In a vote last week, employees at an Amazon warehouse in Garner, N.C. voted 2,447 to 829 against joining an employee-led union.
