There’s always next year. But if Ari Wasserman and Andy Staples of On3.com are right, 2025 might be a banner year for the Horns. The two analysts have put together a “way-to-early” 2025 Top 25 and the pair lists Texas as the No. 1 team in the nation.

For the second straight season, Texas fielded one of the best teams in college football. On Tuesday, Texas ranked third in the final US LBM Coaches Poll for the 2024 football season. The 53 coaches who vote in the coaches poll listed Texas behind just national champion Ohio State and national runner-up Notre Dame.

Texas, which lost to eventual national champion Ohio State in the CFP semifinals, was the highest-ranked team from the SEC.

Naturally, the final AP Poll of the season was released on Tuesday morning, and the Texas Longhorns remain near the top. The Longhorns finished the season ranked No. 4, the exact same placement they had in the previous AP Poll before bowl season.
