Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate in Maine, has issued a public apology after a decades-old tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol resurfaced online. The controversial tattoo,
John E. Sununu, a Republican former US senator from New Hampshire, launched his campaign in the 2026 race to succeed Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
Graham Platner, a Democrat, said he would remove the tattoo. He also sought to distance himself from old Reddit posts that drew criticism.
The stopgap bill, which would extend government funding until Nov. 21, was defeated after a 49-45 vote. It required 60 votes to pass and has now extended the shutdown to two weeks. The Senate will reconvene and vote again on Oct. 15, marking the ninth voting session on the funding bill.
