California and the entire West Coast from Washington to the Mexico border were under a tsunami advisory after an 8.8 quake rocked Russia earlier in the day. The estimated arrival time for San Francisco would be after midnight Pacific time.

An NOAA map (below) shows the red zone stretch about 130 miles from its southernmost point at Cape Mendocino near Fortuna, California, to near Bandon, Oregon. The area reached as far as 15 miles inland at its deepest point at Cape Mendocino, which is located about 200 miles north of San Francisco.

Waves were reported along a wide swath of the Northern California coast, including in San Francisco. The rest of the state was under a lesser tsunami advisory.
