Expanding the train station, the busiest in the nation, is a pressing issue because construction has just begun on a $16 billion pair of rail tunnels under the Hudson River, the centerpieces of a project known as Gateway, which would double the current cross-Hudson capacity.

All 11 teams in the Big East will play at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, during the four-day tournament. St. John’s is entering as the No. 1 seed with a bye into the quarterfinal round. Whichever school wins the Big East title will receive an automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA tournament.

Under the plan by the Grand Penn Community Alliance plan, Penn Station will move above ground while Madison Square Garden is relocated.
