Amazon-backed Anthropic opened a new Bengaluru office and deepened its India push as CEO Dario Amodei praised the country's AI potential, even as the company faces Pentagon scrutiny over restrictions on Claude's military use.

India will play a “central role” in shaping both the opportunities and safeguards around advanced artificial intelligence, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on Thursday, as the company announced its India expansion.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said India has an “absolutely central role” in shaping the future of artificial intelligence. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit 2026, he highlighted India's leadership potential in AI opportunities and risk management while announcing Anthropic's expansion in Bengaluru.

Amodei also pointed to the rapid growth of Anthropic’s business in India, revealing that the company’s run-rate revenue in the market has doubled over the past four months.
