A rapidly spreading blaze in California is impacting communities in the Los Angeles area as thousands have been placed under evacuation orders, officials said.

Firefighters have reached 28% containment on the 5,370-acre Canyon fire, allowing thousands of L.A. County residents to return to their homes Friday evening.

The warnings were lifted as of 7 a.m. August 9, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Evacuation orders in the county had been downgraded to warnings on Friday. Evacuation warnings in Ventura County have also been lifted, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. Containment of the fire was at 28%, according to Cal Fire.
