Amid immigration raids, peaceful protests, attacks on law enforcement officers and the threat of his own arrest by federal agents, California Gov.

Gavin Newsom wants to immediately block the Pentagon from ordering federal and state troops to suppress the protests in Los Angeles, asking for a federal judge's ruling hours after he filed Tuesday morning for an emergency injunction.

President Donald Trump was caught in a lie about the last time he spoke with California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) amid the ongoing immigration protests in Los Angeles.

President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan said he would arrest anyone who obstructs immigration enforcement, including elected officials.

Impact Social data shared with Newsweek showed a plurality—32 percent—of swing voters are responding positively to Trump's response, while 19 percent are responding negatively. Forty-nine percent are responding neutrally to Trump's approach, sharing mostly "emotionless" reaction or news articles about the protests.

Tensions flared in Los Angeles late Monday. On Tuesday, teams worked to scrub away, cover up or fade out protesters' graffiti.

Trump said he “called him up,” and defended his decision to send National Guard troops and Marines to the Los Angeles area after protests over his immigration policies erupted. He said he told Newsom he has to do a better job.

4:47 p.m. EDT The Trump administration asked the judge to reject Newsom’s request and allow it to respond by Wednesday, calling Newsom’s attempt to block the deployment of federal troops “legally meritless” and saying it would jeopardize the safety of Homeland Security personnel and interfere with the government’s ability to carry out operations.
