Fort Pierce salvor Eric Schmitt avoided trial by pleading no contest to charges related to selling three Spanish gold coins from the 1715 Fleet.

Eric Schmitt and his family of treasure hunters, have found $1 million in gold and other treasure off the coast of Florida.

Advanced digital forensics also allegedly linked Eric to a photograph of the stolen coins taken at the Schmitt family condominium in Fort Pierce after identifying metadata and geolocation data.

Schmitt himself has found multiple rare finds, including a haul of coins worth around $300,000 while out with his family in 2013.

A video released from the family shows Eric visibly reacting underwater after finding the gold coins. "It's amazing, it's the reason why you do this," he said.
