The San Diego Padres’ annual interleague series against the Seattle Mariners will have something on the line starting in 2025 – the Vedder Cup.

It’s still the Vedder Cup -- only now, it’s official. For years, games between the Padres and Mariners have been informally known as “The Vedder Cup” -- a reference to Pearl Jam front man and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Eddie Vedder,

Named for Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, who grew up in San Diego and came to fame with Seattle rock giants Pearl Jam, the Vedder Cup moniker was originally coined by sportswriters in the two cities, searching for a nickname for the rivalry between the two teams, who were designated as "natural rivals" when MLB adopted interleague play in 1997.

As part of the new initiative, the Mariners and Padres will make donations to EB Research Partnership, a non-profit co-founded by Vedder and his wife Jill to further research into the skin disease Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB),
