More than $148 million in state grants will support parks, trails, conservation, and public access projects across Washington, state officials announced Thursday.

Tensions over home rule and fights about local control versus state priorities aren’t just happening in Douglas County. They’re also popping up in other, bluer parts of the state.

Laydon said that Douglas County cannot sign a 287G agreement with ICE because law enforcement is not able to coordinate under state law. That would not change even under home rule county status.

However, Douglas County organizations received less total grant money than they did last year, when the state awarded 12 organizations in the county a total of $159,288, as the Journal-World reported.
