Winter is not over yet in Florida, as a cold front is set to move in on Wednesday, with a line of rain and storms bringing a risk of severe weather. Follow wildfire updates in North and South Carolina, where blazes erupted over the weekend. The largest stemmed from a forest fire near Myrtle Beach.

Good morning! Today is a First Alert Weather Day for gusty winds. Yesterday’s cold front has moved offshore, with high pressure building in from the Deep South. This will promote wind gusts up to 30 MPH throughout the day. Because of this, a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for the Midlands.

Storm chances are also in the forecast before 9 a.m. as a system moves easterly through our region with winds elevated throughout the day.

A Level 2 Slight risk of severe weather is in place from Tallahassee to Thomasville and back to the west (yellow). For areas to the east, a Level 1 Marginal risk is in place (green). Storms should weaken as they move east. The greater severe weather threat will stay in the Level 3 Enhanced risk for the Florida Panhandle and into Alabama (orange).

Old Man Winter then quickly takes control this afternoon as cold air crashes in with wraparound snows really ramping up. Folks, it’s going to snow pretty darn hard for a while as winds gust to 30mph-40mph at times. This means near whiteout conditions will be possible at times.

The area witnessed extensive damage, including tossed trailers, mangled roofs, and downed trees and powerlines.

A First Alert Weather Day was issued due to possible strong to severe storms between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The line of storms enter SGA after midnight with threats of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

We still have a First Alert Weather Day for Tuesday tonight through Wednesday afternoon due to snow and gusty winds. Snowfall totals will range from only a couple of inches in communities such as Wautoma & The Fox Valley to as high as 7-12″ up in the Northwoods.
