A man and his wife were shot to death in a small western Iowa town, and the man suspected of shooting them was critically injured in an explosion and subsequent fire in his own home, authorities said.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man accused of fatally shooting his neighbors in western Iowa died Friday. Dennis Burnell, 71, had suffered severe burns in a fire at his house during the shooting. The scene unfolded Wednesday night in Glenwood, a town of 5,000 people across the border from Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

The suspected shooter in a double homicide Wednesday in Glenwood has died of extensive burn injuries in a Kansas City hospital.
