Another person in Bay County has died from Vibrio vulnificus infection, the Florida Department of Health said, bringing the 2025 state total to five.

Officials said eight cases were tied to wound exposure but stressed the infections are "sporadic and unrelated to an outbreak."

The U.S. is seeing a rise in cases of Vibrio vulnificus, a deadly "flesh-eating" bacteria found in warm coastal waters especially in Florida and Louisiana.
