For a parent, the hardest part of an IEP meeting usually isn't the paperwork. It's sitting through an hour of professionals listing everything their child struggles with. We know the room. We run these meetings all the time. For a parent, it might be one of the hardest hours of their year. Before your next meeting, make sure the plan includes strengths, not just areas of need. Lead with something the student can do. That one shift changes how the whole room feels. #IEP #specialeducation #spedtea

Your school's biggest legal risk isn't coming from a difficult parent. It's coming from your team walking into an IEP meeting unprepared. Unclear roles. No prep structure. Informal responses. Scrambling in the moment. That's not just a meeting problem, that's a compliance problem. And when it goes wrong, you're the one answering for it. You cannot wing compliant IEP meetings. And your team shouldn't have to. That's why we built the free 15-Minute IEP Meeting Prep System specifically for charter

“I believe parents should absolutely walk into an IEP meeting ready to collaborate. But collaborative does not mean passive. You can appreciate the teacher. You can respect the team. And you can still say: ‘Show me the data that supports that recommendation.’ Those things are not opposites. #specialeducationteacher #specialeducation #autismmom #specialneedsparent #IEP #Autismmom

For families, navigating special education can be overwhelming—especially when they’re told that changing placements means giving up services. Parents deserve clear information about their rights, their options, and what supports may be available based on their individual circumstances. #SpecialEducationBoss #ParentAdvocacy #IEPAdvocacy #SpecialEducation #DisabilityRights #InclusiveEducation #KnowYourRights #SpecialNeedsParents

The copy and paste IEP problem. If you could swap the student's name in an IEP and nothing else would need to change, that's a problem. Under I.D.E.A., present levels have to reflect this student's actual current academic and functional performance (34 CFR 300.320(a)(1)), not a paragraph that got copied forward from last year with the dates updated. If the goals don't reflect anything specific to how this student actually learns, they were probably copied too. A new school year means new data, n
