When forests become overcrowded, closely packed trees can shade out grasses and other plants deer, elk and pronghorn antelopes depend on. Loggers in eastern Oregon are helping landowners benefit wildlife by thinning densely packed stands. This improves the health of remaining trees by reducing competition for moisture and light, and also makes more water available to streams for fish.
