Hiking is one of the best ways to experience a Civil War battlefield. When you get out of the car and onto the trails, you can explore historic markers and walk the land where monumental fighting took place. We recently partnered with Rizzoli to create “Civil War Battlefields: Walking the Trails of History,” a large-format, beautifully produced volume that highlights some of the most remarkable hikes on Civil War battlefields. And, a portion of the proceeds goes toward battlefield preservation!

The Liberty Trail continued to grow and expand in 2022, with new properties, exciting interpretive resources and major archaeological discoveries all infusing fresh life into South Carolina’s Revolutionary War story! Our GPS-enabled mobile tour guide debuted in February, including interpretation for 30 stops across the state, ranging from national and state parks to once-secret spots. Set to grow over time, The Liberty Trail App is available for download through Google Play and the Apple Store.
